PA Distance is thrilled to introduce the iCEV program to 11th-and-12th grade students interested in jump-starting their career path before finishing high school. The iCEV program gives students the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials through a semester-long asynchronous program outside of their regular live classes and coursework.
“This program will help students gain real-world experience within a particular career path,” Career Education & Work (CEW) Coordinator Ms. Budd explained. “These courses can also help students reinforce what they like and maybe help them realize what they don’t like.”
“If a student thinks they want to pursue a career in business, but they take the course to earn a business credential and don’t enjoy the content, that might prompt them to change paths,” she added.
The program offers 16 unique programs and credentials based on real-world industry standards. From veterinary medicine to a communications credential produced by Southwest Airlines, there is something for everyone. Students may also be given the opportunity to complete a credential alongside a PA Distance class that aligns with the course content. These situations would be assessed on a case-by-case basis and would allow a student to receive course credit as well as an industry-recognized credential.
When students earn a credential through iCEV, they will receive a certificate proving they have acquired the skills necessary for a particular career. According to iCEV, students who complete these programs are more likely to continue on to earn more professional credentials, succeed in their careers, and earn higher salaries than those who did not.
