John Medina, from Allentown, PA has been a student at PA Distance since he was in 10th grade. His younger siblings, Jaylene, Natalie, and Anthony, all attend PA Distance as well. He appreciates the safety and flexibility that PA Distance provides and looks forward to his high school graduation on June 11th.

“We all have our own space to do our work,” John explained. “It works out well.”

“I like the teachers the most,” he said. “They are so understanding. They push me to make sure I’m succeeding academically but they also reach out about personal stuff too.”

He especially loves his music classes with Mr. Hart and often practices in his free time.

“Music has always been a part of my life and I love it,” John explained. “In Percussion class, I got a drum pad and drumsticks in the mail. In Electronic Music class, I also learned how music is made all on the computer.”

When he’s not in class, doing homework, or helping his family around the house, John works at a local mechanic shop 6 days a week.

“I can work on assignments when I’m not busy at the shop,” he said.

“John understands the ups and downs of balancing friends, work, and school. He has learned the delicate balance and strives to do well in all he is involved in. He is very passionate and works hard at what he does,” his school counselor, Mrs. Mihoreck said.

He is also interested in pursuing a trade career at Triangle Tech.

“I haven’t decided what I want to specialize in, but possibly welding, carpentry, or auto mechanics,” he said.

“I’m going to miss talking to my teachers and classmates. Once I close my computer for the last time, it will really hit me,” he added. “It’s awesome to be able to communicate virtually with classmates across the state and help each other out with class work.”
