This past weekend, 84 PA Distance Learning Charter School graduates from the Class of 2023 received their diplomas surrounded by friends, family, faculty, and staff in Harrisburg. Students who were unable to attend the in-person graduation were given the opportunity to join virtually.
The ceremony commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance led by graduate Madison Schavlay and a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem sung by graduate Alexandrea Alfred before Board President Mr. Marous took the stage.
“Our school was founded 22 years ago with one simple belief,” he began.
“The belief was that a combination of excellent teaching and a program for efficient independent learning would be the best thing that we could offer to the next generation. I hope that foundation will carry on and live with you in the future.”
PA Distance Chief Executive Officer Dr. Leitera then announced, “To the Class of 2023: No matter where your path takes you, no matter what hills you climb or valleys you may descend, I want you to remember that PA Distance will always be your home and your alma mater.
“Never forget that faculty and staff will continue to be here to support and encourage you throughout your upcoming years.”
Keynote Speaker Dr. Wilson advised students to do well, do good, and don’t be afraid throughout their future endeavors.
“The fact that you are all here today in your caps and gowns says that you already have what it takes to do well.
“But don’t just do well for yourself; do good for others. If you hope that your neighbor has the same opportunity to do well as you do, we’re going to leave this world a better place than we’ve found it.
“Finally, don’t be afraid. Fear can grind to a halt all the wheels of possibility, opportunity, capacity, and hope. So be brave and keep your eyes fixed on doing well and doing good.”
Chief Operations Officer Mr. Kocuba and Jalil Johnson, recipient of the Foundations Award (given to a student enrolled at PA Distance from their elementary years until graduation)
Salutatorian Casey Allshouse and Valedictorian Michaela Vernola shared that they are incredibly grateful for the staff at PA Distance helping them shape their plans after high school.
“The future holds endless possibilities for each and every one of us,” stated graduate Jaymie Helsel.
