Earlier this week, teachers and staff officially welcomed Dr. Michael Leitera as PA Distance Charter School’s new Chief Executive Officer. He follows Mrs. Patricia Rossetti as we wish her the best of luck in retirement.
Dr. Leitera’s 25-year career in education began at Seneca Valley High School, where he predominantly taught senior social sciences for nine and a half years. Additionally, he was the principal at Riverside Beaver County School District, the superintendent of Knoch School District, and the superintendent of Mohawk Area School District.
“Teaching is truly an art and a science. It is a profession for the most curious and caring individuals, and it bears a responsibility to provide an outlet for each student’s potential,” Dr. Leitera explained.
As Dr. Leitera assumes his role, he will prioritize the school’s ongoing efforts to perfect asynchronous lesson development and make the student experience as pragmatic as possible. He believes in the importance of listening to staff and student needs in order to ensure PA Distance remains an inclusive learning environment for everyone.
Dr. Leitera recognizes that PA Distance operates on a unique schedule as opposed to a typical brick-and-mortar school.
“What I think people don’t know about cyber charter schools is how many kids we are able to help because of the nontraditional delivery of education. It allows for independence, flexibility, and strong personal connections between teachers and students.”
During his short time working onsite, Dr. Leitera noted that he has already seen an incredibly hard-working staff and a tremendous amount of creativity. He also pointed out the dedication to family engagement at in-person events and how PA Distance is undoubtedly a place where teaching still matters.
“I believe we have limitless potential to keep improving as a school,” he stated.
Dr. Leitera couldn’t be more enthusiastic about having the opportunity to work with the PA Distance team. He anticipates a prosperous future as he strives to positively impact every student.
