Similar to families in Tioga and Potter County, families of PA Distance Charter School students in Philadelphia come together in order to engage with their children’s learning.

Philadelphia might be known as “The City of Brotherly Love,” but it is also called home by 414 PA Distance students. As the sixth most populated city in the United States, Philadelphia is rich in culture, food, and experiences that expose students to the real world and allow them to make applicable connections to their schoolwork.

Regional 4 Community Engagement Coach Miss Ashlee Freeman joined the PA Distance Community Engagement Team in January 2022, primarily overseeing Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Chester, and Bucks Counties.

As a member of the CE Team, she travels across the state to host educational events and serves as a mentor to students and their families.

One memorable event Miss Freeman organized was Game Night at Richmond Library. Several families gathered to play board and video games while getting to better know PA Distance teachers and staff.

“Mrs. Linda Williams and Mr. Ken Middlemiss traveled along with me. Mr. Middlemiss facilitated the most animated and intense game of Mario Brothers while Mrs. Williams met with parents to explain how they play a vital role in the success of this community,” said Miss Freeman.

During a trip to the Museum of Illusions in April, 49 participants joined Miss Freeman and other staff members to explore fascinating, immersive exhibits in the heart of Philadelphia. “The day was filled with laughter and mind-blowing art,” she stated.

Miss Freeman hopes to see all of her Philadelphia friends (and those from other areas) at each SkyZone event throughout the coming weeks.
