Last Wednesday marked PA Distance Learning Charter School’s 8th annual Ed Camp. The day was filled with opportunities for staff members to learn from one another in an internal, mini-conference-like setting.
Participants submitted proposals to present their learning, knowledge, strategies, etc. to their peers. They also demonstrated evidence of professionalism as outlined in the evaluation rubrics.
Ed Camp was developed as a way for teachers and staff to share the techniques they find successful within their classrooms and respective roles. Each year, presenters continue to propose unique and applicable topics designed to provoke thought and encourage collaboration. Sessions usually range from five to 50 attendees.
There are even chances to win prizes such as PA Distance gear and gift cards! The day is seen as a celebration of education, unity, and engagement.
One presentation was “Through Their Lens: An Accessible Workshop on Cultural Competency,” led by Miss Ashlee Freeman and Mrs. Antonietta Riley. Both Miss Freeman and Mrs. Riley did an excellent job providing evidence-based, inclusive, and culturally responsive information to build relationships with students, families, and communities.
The workshop sparked a productive discussion centered around how to ensure a safe and equitable learning environment for all students.
In her presentation titled, “Mindfulness Meditation - Self-Care from the Inside Out,” Ms. Susannah Azzaro helped staff understand the purpose and benefits of meditation. She also demonstrated several types of guided practices to promote organization and productivity.
Thank you to Mrs. Vicki DeRoner, Miss Marisa Petraglia, and Mrs.Tanya Contos for organizing this day of learning as well as all those who presented or participated. Your knowledge, hard work, and dedication were crucial for another successful Ed Camp!
