11th-grader, Zoey Scott, from Dillsburg, PA, joined the PA Distance family last year. Since then, she has gotten to know her teachers and furthered her love for art. She has also had an opportunity to continue playing soccer and practicing to go pro one day.
“I like that the teachers are so nice,” Zoey said. “They really are inquisitive about how my day has been, ask if anything interesting is going on, and make sure that everything is ok at home.”
Zoey’s favorite classes at PA Distance are Drawing & Painting, History, and Chemistry.
“In Drawing & Painting we do a lot of fun art projects including drawing, using charcoal, ink, and also painting. I like doing these projects to just clear my head if I have been having a busy day or to just make something new,” she explained. “I love learning new and different art techniques.”
Zoey also has a strong interest in playing soccer as she is a club soccer player with the Pennsylvania Classics. Her enrollment at PA Distance has helped her maintain her practice schedule and keep up with her school work.
“I want to pursue being a soccer player through college,” she explained. “I am getting a good amount of emails from college coaches about soccer. It has been a dream of mine since I was little to go pro so I want to try hard to accomplish that dream.”
“Attending PA Distance does help because if I have to leave early during the day or I have to go somewhere on a Friday for a game,” she added. “I don't have to miss any classes since most of mine are in the morning.”
While she plans to attend college to play soccer, she would like to major in art or study to become a physical therapist. Right now, she is looking into attending Penn State, Virginia Wesleyan University, Mount St. Mary's and a few others.
“I would like to focus on painting if I pursue art in college,” Zoey explained. “I have painted ever since I was little and my mother is an amazing artist. She paints and that's where I got my inspiration. I have done many paintings and I have so many canvases in my room waiting to be painted.”
“Since I want to go to college to be a soccer player I was thinking of studying something sports related,” she explained. “During freshman year of high school, I got hurt and strained seven muscles in my thigh and knee. I went to a physical therapist and they helped me make a fast and easy recovery. Seeing this really showed me that I liked the idea of being one, too.”
With one last year left before she graduates to pursue her dream of playing college soccer, Zoey admits that she will miss PA Distance once she's gone.
“I will miss the teachers and the live classes. I like how the teachers always want to help and know about your day,” she said.
