"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."

If only we could remember these words prior to judging ourselves and our peers. Unfortunately, the statistics on bullying keep growing among children.

As a teenager, I experienced repetitive social bullying. Before my eyes, I watched as a group of  my "friends" started vicious rumors about me which eventually led to feelings of helplessness and fear.  They were intentionally leaving me out of activities and get togethers and even finding ways outside of school to tarnish my social reputation.

The final straw was waking up to written graffiti drawings that contained vulgar language outside of my house. I was fortunate to have such a strong support system and through the intervention of my parents, teachers, and school administrators the bullying stopped.

Although we work with families from all walks of life, I tend to resonate with those who have experienced bullying issues.  Sometimes these families just want to be heard.  Here at PA Distance Learning Charter School, we welcome you with open arms. We won't judge you by your clothes or the color of your nose.

Lastly, with all of the violence that is going on in our world today we need to remember that the change starts within each of us.  If you or someone you know is being bullied, take action and speak up.

"Be the change you want to see in the world."
