At an Education conference, a PA Distance Learning teacher introduced herself to a group. A member of the group greeted this teacher by saying, “So you’re the one stealing our tax dollars!”
After a few moments of tense conversation, it was ended with, “You call them your tax dollars. I call them my students.”
That response is the solution to the problem. Kids can feel the difference between being viewed as a tax dollar versus being viewed as a student without us ever having to say those words. For some kids, that difference can change their whole life.
In the video included, Rita Pierson tackles the heart of this problem by saying, “Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”
“Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”
Our PA Distance Learning teachers strive to be that champion for their students. We expect success for every student, and believe that success is defined as growth. When a child is growing and being the best version of their own self, they’re succeeding.
When teachers are building life-changing relationships in order to teach meaningful content, they’re succeeding.
