All week at PA Distance Learning we have discussed that the idea behind National School Choice Week is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, private schools and cyber schools just like PA Distance Learning. We took an in-depth look at staff member and former PA Distance Learning graduate, Olivia Porter and her fantastic school choice story! We also asked students and families to enter our Poster and Essay Contest this week. Let me tell you, the submissions we received were amazing, well thought out and very much appreciated. Now, without further adieu, here are the winners:
Poster Contest Winner: Gabriella Jesky (Grade 4)
Runner up: Dakota Palmer, Willow Weaver
Gabriella's entry:
Essay Contest Winner: Fawnia Brown (Grade 6)
Runner up: Kiersten Kilmeyer, Gabriella Jesky, Calista Leonard
Fawnia's entry:
"Ever since I was in kindergarten I have had ear problems. Which I had to have ear surgeries a lot. So I missed a lot of school. No-one wanted to play with me in school because I could not hear very much because of my ears. I was bullied. And I didn't want to go to public school. Because I had no friends. So my parents decided to enroll me into a cyber school. They looked at different cyber schools and decided to enroll me in PA Distance. Which now i have been with PA Distance for 5 years now and I love it. I think we should all celebrate school choice week because we should have a choice to choose which school we attend. That we don't have to get pushed around and bullied in public school. We all have a choice."
Congratulations to our winners and to all students who participated!
