Big Changes for 2016-17 School Year

This year has many changes in store for PA Distance Learning Charter School students and their families, and the PA Distance Learning staff has been working tirelessly in preparation.

One of the major changes will be the increased time students will spend in live learning with their teachers and classmates.

“Our upcoming school year is one that I am looking forward to with great anticipation,” said Dr. Darla Posney, school principal.  “The new live learning schedule allows both students and teachers more time to learn together and will allow our teachers and students the opportunity to hone their skills.”

Posney has wasted no time in adding to what PA Distance Learning offers since starting in March.  She has worked over 15 years in cyber education as a teacher and administrator.

By expanding time spent in live classrooms, she hopes that teachers are able to know each one of their students on a deeper level, allowing them to personalize their students’ education.

In addition to expanding their Middle School into 6th grade, a new opportunity to learn a language will be given to the Middle School students starting this year.  6th graders may take the Foreign Language Survey class, while 7th and 8th graders will have the opportunity to take French or Spanish for High School credit.

High Schoolers can expect not only more time in live class, but more classes available to them.  From electives like Mythology and History of the Holocaust to AP Math, AP English, and AP History courses, PA Distance Learning High Schoolers will have many academic opportunities before them.

Finally, all students can expect regularly scheduled resource rooms and weekly homerooms to be available to them for additional academic help and community building opportunities.

Regarding this coming school year Posney said with excitement, “I cannot wait to see and get to know all the students as we begin the 2016-2017 school year.  I promise you that the upcoming year will be one of the best at PA Distance.  I really do believe that success is important for all students and that your success is our success.”
